Madie Ives

Miami, FL

Client:  Miami-Dade County Public Schools

The existing Madie Ives Elementary School campus contains a finger school which has become difficult to secure and is obsolete, numerous portables and a Primary Learning Center.  This project involves a Middle Learning Center Addition and the phased replacement of the elementary school to create one seamless, easy-to-operate K-8 school. The existing school will remain fully operational while the new facility is constructed.

Zyscovich created a seamless campus via a dynamic site plan which emphasizes movement. The new school’s design creates an easily secured and circulated campus. A central entry plaza has been created to funnel students and visitors through administration. A courtyard with art patios, an elevated performance stage and shaded outdoor dining areas with benches and trees has also been included in the design.

The new K-8 facility’s design will resolve major community traffic issues in the area as extensive off-site road work is proposed. The new school will also have new bus and parent drop-offs and playfields.
