Cypress Run Education Center

Pompano Beach, FL

Cypress Run Education Center is a repeat of the Pine Ridge Education Center prototype and is an education and vocational training facility for troubled youths. Specific adaptations for this school include the addition of agricultural and culinary arts programs. The look and feel of the replacement school is one of optimism and progression while the building design reinforces order, discipline and control. The school incorporates facilities for grade levels K-12, each meeting the needs of their specific educational goals while providing a place of safety, security and behavior management through integrated site and building design.

The core program facilities shared by all grade levels are located on the ground floor. Kindergarten and elementary classrooms with direct access to fenced outdoor play areas are in a separate wing at the ground floor adjacent to the administrative areas, increasing security and supervision. The middle school and high school classrooms are located on the second floor with their own mini-administrative suites for separation of circulation and to allow for flexibility of program changes.

Angled corridor walls, chamfered corners, and full swing doors minimize hiding spaces and enable supervision of the corridor areas from one point of control, minimizing operational staffing costs by requiring less supervisory personnel.  The interior spaces are designed to be exciting learning environments created with low maintenance, highly durable material systems.
