Colonial Bank, Michigan Street

Miami Beach, FL

The challenge for Zyscovich in planning the interior for the new Colonial Bank at 1691 Michigan Avenue, Suite 100 in South Beach was how to adapt a traditional design to a starkly modern building. The “colonial” identity had to be apparent from first glance through the glass storefront façade. The resolution to the challenge was the acute streamlining of a traditional approach. The interior design draws from a palette of traditional materials and colors: Porcelain tiles are inset with desert gold Jerusalem stone on counter tops. Additional colors accents draw from a palette of taupe and gold. Teller stations have granite tops. To further suggest the warmth of a traditional look, the bank was given an intimate lighting scheme. Furnishings, on the other hand, are “transitional modern” in style – sleek in design with wood finishes and frames.
