FAU Parking Garage III

The Boca Raton Campus does not have adequate parking to meet its current needs and this condition will worsen with the growth of the campus and its population. As the campus continues to grow, many of the existing surface lots have been marked for future construction, thereby putting a greater burden on the existing parking shortage. This campus parking requirement is more urgent with the opening of the new FAU Stadium with a capacity of 30,000 seats.

The primary goal of this project is to design, construct and put into service a net additional 1,000 parking spaces with the ability to expand the garage to 2,000 spaces in the future, adjacent to the new FAU Stadium. The ground floor will be designed with a high floor to floor height to accommodate future retail space within the ground floor footprint of the garage. The addition of retail and parking here, along with the future Spanish River I-95 interchange and exit, will shift the campus center north; as such, the firm is designing a pedestrian-friendly structure and circulation that will create a new “Neighborhood District” on the campus to capitalize on the synergies of the nearby housing, wellness center, stadium and academic buildings, creating a “Destination Hub.”

The Architectural Design of Parking Garage IIl will be designed with an appropriate and acceptable architectural design to enhance, embrace and reflect the existing campus fabric and architectural elements. Landscaping and exterior lighting will be incorporated into the design for function, aesthetics, security and safety. All garage lighting will be designed to minimize energy usage while providing safe lighting levels at all times of the day. The project also includes walkways and plazas, adequate for connecting this facility to other facilities and parking areas in a way that is consistent with the master plan. The facility is being sustainably designed under the Green Globes rating system.
