Knickerbocker Hotel

New York, NY

The iconic 300,000 SF Beaux-Arts Knickerbocker Hotel was built in 1906, and the trophy, corner property enjoys one of the most prominent locations in the heart of the internationally renowned Times Square District. Zyscovich Architects was retained as the retail architect to develop retail signage design for the first and second floors of this monumental building. The firm recently received approval from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission for a modern interpretation for retail signage that was found to be contextually correct for historic 42nd Street.

Zyscovich used the signage to restore historic design elements of the street level facades. The signage was developed in keeping with the context of the Times Square district and incorporates animated and LED signage and graphics behind the existing storefront, respecting the historic character of the newly renovated hotel.
